Hello, my name is Joshua Haaland, I am a photographer, a videographer, I do motion graphic for artists' musical performance, a poet, but more than any of that I consider myself to be a storyteller. I have always had a fascination with the power that a single image can have. It can capture history and keep it safe forever, it can be the spark of a movement, it can capture the beauty of a soul and evoke emotion in someones heart. You can spend thousands of words in the most eloquent of ways and sometimes you may still fail to do any of these things. That's what inspires me as a photographer.
Because of my story I have always felt like an outsider, an outcast, but I have learned to see that as a blessing and not the curse that I thought that it was. I'm a product of growing up all over the United States, from small towns in the country of Texas to south Chicago and suburbs of places like Seattle and Colorado Springs and on of the largest cities in the country, Houston. Growing up in such a variety of environments has kept my eyes open to what is going on in our culture, and heart open to the pain of those around me. I am a feeler, I feel everything that surrounds to the nth degree, that's why capturing people, capturing emotions, and capturing ideas in fashion fully fascinates every part of me. After graduating from the University of Houston in May 2016, I moved to Los Angeles the following July.
As I mentioned above, in addition to photography I also shoot and edit video, as well as lighting and video design for live performances. The main artists that I currently work with are the bands that are a part of the church that I work for as part of its creative team, Fearless LA. Those bands currently are Fearless BND, Light Kills Dark, and our few other soloists under our umbrella Fearless Artists. In addition to these Endeavors I am also a spoken word artist/poet under the moniker Josh The Poet. Where I tell stories about my own struggles, people I've met throughout my life and their struggles, all in with the desire to share the hope that I have found in my life. This is the base of where I came up with the name of my company, Josh the Poet Creative.
